Using JetKVM

Wake on LAN

Wake on LAN turns on a computer, or wakes it from sleep, with a network message called a magic packet. JetKVM sends it on JetKVM's network, so you can wake any computer there, even when you're connected through JetKVM Cloud.

For a computer connected to JetKVM over HDMI and USB, it's an easy way to turn it on remotely. For full power control, including a forced shutdown, use the ATX Power Control extension.

Turn it on in the BIOS or UEFI

Restart the computer you want to wake and open its BIOS or UEFI setup. Find the Wake on LAN setting and turn it on. Where it is and what it's called depends on the computer; look under power or network settings, or check the manual.

Wake on LAN usually needs a wired Ethernet connection.

Turn it on in the operating system

  1. Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager.
  2. Under Network adapters, double-click your Ethernet adapter.
  3. On the Power Management tab, check Allow this device to wake the computer and Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer.
  4. On the Advanced tab, set Wake on Magic Packet to Enabled, if it's listed.

While you're there, note the computer's MAC address. On Windows, run ipconfig /all and look for Physical Address.

Add it to JetKVM

  1. In JetKVM's web interface, click Wake on LAN in the top bar.
  2. Click Add New Device.
  3. Enter a Device Name and the MAC Address, then click Save Device.

JetKVM saves the device, so it's there next time, from any browser.

Wake it

Click Wake next to the device. A computer that's off usually takes a few seconds to start.

If it doesn't wake

  • Check that Wake on LAN is on in both the BIOS and the operating system.
  • Shut the computer down normally. On Windows, a full shutdown with Fast Startup on can ignore magic packets; try sleep first, or turn off Fast Startup.
  • If the computer is on a different subnet or VLAN, delete the device in JetKVM and add it again with Broadcast Address set to Custom subnet. Enter that subnet's broadcast IP, such as 192.168.2.255.
