Using JetKVM

Video

All video settings are in JetKVM's web interface, under Settings, then Video. The defaults work for most setups.

Hide JetKVM display when idle

The computer sees JetKVM as a monitor, even when no one is using it. If you also use the computer with its own screen, that gets in the way:

  • The desktop extends onto a screen you can't see, and windows or the mouse end up there.
  • Some laptops keep their built-in screen off while JetKVM is plugged in.

Turn on Hide JetKVM display when idle. When no one is connected, JetKVM unplugs itself from the computer, as if you'd pulled the HDMI cable. When you connect, it plugs back in and the computer picks it up again, which can take a few seconds.

Quality

Auto, the default, adapts the stream to your connection, up to High quality. Choose a fixed level if you want the stream to stay the same:

  • High for the sharpest picture on a fast connection.
  • Medium to balance picture and bandwidth.
  • Low for a slow or metered connection, like a phone hotspot.

Codec

Auto picks the best codec your browser supports. On JetKVM, H.265 gives a better picture than H.264 at the same bandwidth; choose H.264 if video stutters or doesn't play in your browser. JetKVM Mini always uses H.264.

EDID

EDID is how JetKVM tells the computer which resolutions it supports. The computer uses it to choose its video output. JetKVM Default works for most computers; only change it when the picture doesn't.

When to change it

  • The screen stays black in the BIOS or UEFI, but works once the OS starts.
  • The computer picks the wrong resolution or refresh rate.

Pick a preset under EDID. Each one makes JetKVM look like a common monitor. Restart the computer if the picture doesn't change right away.

Custom EDID

On JetKVM, choose Custom, paste an EDID as hexadecimal and click Set Custom EDID. Restore to default goes back to JetKVM Default. JetKVM Mini only offers its presets.

A wrong EDID can leave the computer with no picture. If that happens, choose JetKVM Default again.
