Tailscale

With Tailscale, you open JetKVM from any device on your tailnet, as if you were on the same local network. It doesn't use the JetKVM cloud.

What you need

Set up Tailscale

Tailscale supports JetKVM out of the box: its Linux release includes a JetKVM setup. An install script runs on your computer, copies Tailscale to JetKVM over SSH and runs that setup for you.

  1. Turn on Developer Mode and add your SSH key to JetKVM:Developer Mode
  2. On your computer, in the terminal you used for the SSH key, run this with the IP address from JetKVM's front display in place of <jetkvm_ip>:
    Terminal
    curl -fsSL https://jetkvm.com/install-tailscale.sh | sh -s -- <jetkvm_ip>
The script runs on macOS and Linux. On Windows, run it in WSL.
  3. Type y to confirm. The script downloads the latest stable Tailscale, checks it, copies it to JetKVM and restarts JetKVM. The restart can take up to two minutes.
  4. When JetKVM is back, the script prints a Tailscale sign-in link. Open it, add JetKVM to your tailnet, then open JetKVM's Tailscale address in your browser.

Install script options. Put options before the IP address, for example sh -s -- -y 192.168.1.64:

OptionWhat it does
-v <version>Install a specific Tailscale version instead of the latest stable one.
-ySkip the confirmation prompt.
-cDelete existing Tailscale data first. JetKVM joins your tailnet as a new machine.

Headscale and other tailscale up flags. Anything after a second -- goes straight to tailscale up. For a self-hosted coordination server such as Headscale:

Terminal
curl -fsSL https://jetkvm.com/install-tailscale.sh | sh -s -- <jetkvm_ip> -- --login-server=https://headscale.example.com

You can combine several flags:

Terminal
curl -fsSL https://jetkvm.com/install-tailscale.sh | sh -s -- <jetkvm_ip> -- --login-server=https://headscale.example.com --advertise-tags=tag:kvm
