# Keyboard & Mouse

> Type, paste and copy text, send shortcuts, pick a mouse mode and keep the computer awake with JetKVM.

The computer sees JetKVM as a USB keyboard and mouse. What you type and click in JetKVM's web interface goes to the computer, including in the BIOS and before the operating system starts.

## Keyboard

### Match the keyboard layout

Set **Keyboard Layout**, under **Settings**, then **Keyboard**, to the layout the computer's operating system uses. Otherwise pasted text, the virtual keyboard and macros type the wrong characters, like `z` instead of `y` on a German computer. JetKVM has 19 layouts.

### Paste text

Click **Paste text** in the top bar, paste and click **Confirm Paste**. JetKVM types it, for passwords or commands where copy and paste doesn't work. It skips characters the layout can't type; if characters go missing on a slow computer, raise **Delay between keys**.

### Copy text from the screen

Click the arrow next to **Paste text**, choose **Copy text** and drag over the text. JetKVM recognizes it in your browser, lets you review it and copies it to your clipboard.

### Send shortcuts

Your browser catches some shortcuts, like **Ctrl+Alt+Delete** or the Windows key. Send them from **Virtual Keyboard** in the top bar, or save them as macros under **Settings**, then **Keyboard Macros**: up to 25, of up to 10 keys each, as buttons below the top bar.

## Mouse

### Choose a mouse mode

Under **Settings**, then **Mouse**. If scrolling goes the wrong way, turn on **Invert Scroll Direction** there too.

| Mode | Use it |
| -------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Absolute | The default. The cursor goes exactly where you point. |
| Relative | When the cursor doesn't follow you, in some BIOS setups and games. Click the video to capture the mouse; **Esc** releases it. |

### Keep the computer awake

The **Jiggler**, under **Settings**, then **Mouse**, nudges the mouse so the computer doesn't sleep or lock during a long install. It runs on JetKVM, so it keeps going after you close the browser.

| Setting | Nudges the mouse after |
| -------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Frequent | 30 seconds |
| Standard | 1 minute |
| Light | 5 minutes |
| Custom | Your own wait, optionally on a schedule such as business hours |
